Something In Your Eyes Has Changed

After that last kiss we will never be the same

Said after that last kiss we’ll never be the same

Your feet don’t hit the floor when my key unlocks the door

Baby something in your eyes has changed

When I call out your name it never feels the same

Said when I call your name it never feels the same

These days your as cold as stone and I always feel alone

Baby something in your eyes has changed

You say it’s just our luck, you wont look me in the eye

Now you’re giving up when you’ve never really tried

You say our love’s gone lame but I still feel the same

Baby something in your eyes has changed

Baby something in your eyes has changed

This life inside our bed it now feels prearranged

Said this life inside our bed now feels prearranged

Laying next to you use to always feel brand new

Baby something in your eyes has changed

When our lips finally touch the feeling’s gone away

Said when our lips finally touch, feelin’s gone away

When our love was new I couldn’t get enough of you

Baby something in your eyes has changed

You say it’s just our luck but you wont look me in the eye

So now you’re giving up when you’ve never really tried

You say our love’s gone lame but we both still play the game

Baby something in your eyes has changed

Baby something in your eyes has changed

He works out on his ranch with the sun beatin’ down

Never dreamed that the day would ever come ’round

He’d ride a different tractor than he had since a kid

But Green & Yeller don’t make ‘em like they once did

It’s no fun out in the sun on a broke down macine

Hours spent fixin’ her up and gettin’ her clean

Theses tractors ain’t what granpa loved way back when

He wishes John Deere would just make tractors again

They’re all high tech with Mother Boards, GPS and MP3’s

Air condition sustained cabs but the tillers ain’t free

The metal’s turned to plastic the engine block’s a POS

Fuel injected, aluminum headers, the rearend of the class

It’s no fun out in the sun on a broke down macine

Hour’s spent fixin’ her up and gettin’ her clean

Today’s tractors ain’t what granpa loved way back when

Lord he wishes John Deere would just make tractors again

No fun out in the sun workin’ on a brand new piece of junk

Every other hour’s spent just haveing to slave to fix her up

Lord these tractor’s ain’t what grandpa loved way back then

He simply wishes John Deere would just make tractors again

Why did you ever get on this road again (G/D)

To see some fake Picasos painted by a friend (C/D)

You’d never even slow down if it not for all your kin (A)

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again (G/D)

The less you get on home the more it stays the same

Wouldn’t even stop if it weren’t for your last name

They will always make you do feel like you’ve gone insane

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again

Driving ‘cross Texas to hit I10 one more time

Said you’d never go back in fact you’d rather die

Just one too many things that time can not mend

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again

Staring out the window waiting for the scene to change

Praying that tomorrow will be better than yesterday

If you live to see sunrise you’ll be screaming out amen

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again

Cruising down the lonely streets of your last hometown

Growing up on the road my friend never helped you settle down

Went looking for a friendly face in a town of angry men

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again

Why you got off this road makes you scratch your head

You ran into an old friend and this is all he said

“The one you wanted killed is living the one you loved was slain

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again

“It’s best you get on back to the Hell from which you came

You got nothin’ more to offer man and not a stake to claim

You’ve left us with nothin’ and have taken our surname

Tell me why did you ever get on this road again”

Haulin’ down the road again towin’ all you left behind

Seems like all that baggage never quite come untied

It’s a long hard road to drive to get back to all my friends

I promise y’all I’ll never get on this road again

Just Leave

You say you’ll quite drinking again

It’s the same line you’ve used before

So you’re goin’ out with your friends

Don’t let your back get hit by the door

I’m trying my best to be kind

That’s just not the way that it feels

I always thought you’d be mine

But you’ll forever belong to your pills

So do you blame it on luck or do you blame it on fate

You think you’re just stuck, or just a moment too late

Tell me, what did ya think when you finally realized

That nothing’s in sync and you’re not always right

I’ve heard this more than one time

We both know how this story ends

There’s nothing new we can find

It’s a broken fence we can’t mend

Sorry but that was the last time

I’ve got nothing left I can give

And I know this sounds unkind

You’ll need somewhere else to live

So do you blame it on luck or so you blame it on fate

You think you’re just stuck or just a moment too late

Tell me, what did ya think when ya finally realized

That nothing’s in sync and you’re not always right

The Spoke’s Broke

August 18, 2013

(May 10, 2013 at 8:07am)

They say everything must change
Thirty years it’s been the same
But things got a lil’ out of hand
The day Broken Spoke got valet

There’s a two foot riser on which the band has to play
A’top the concrete rectangle where they dance night away
Thirty something tables on each side of the floor
Jukebox upfront and here in back, not really sure what for

They say everything must change
Thirty years it’s been the same
But things got a lil’ out of hand
The day Broken Spoke got valet

Outside I can hear big trucks that tore up the parking lot
As condos go up ’round us we appreciate what we still got
Then that guy took the bus back and now I’m fighting off tears
From photos of all big shots who played the Spoke over the years

They say everything must change
Thirty years it’s been the same
But things got out of hand
The day Broken Spoke got valet

2 Step Re-Hab

She’s got five different pairs of Cowgirl boots

A dozen sets of jeans that she squeezes into

A body that’ll always leave you beggin’ for more

You’d really love to get her out on the floor

Goin’ to ask her ’cause you caught a glance

But ever since I met her that girl can’t dance

She’s got her favorite table at the Broken Spoke

Everybody loves her & that ain’t no joke

Times she wears a dress-’cause she likes to twirl

Down in her heart she’s still a five year old girl

Her smile’ll lead you thinkin’ you stand a chance

But ever since I met her the girl can’t dance

She starts to drinkin’

And she wants to do more

Courage in a bottle

To get her out on the floor

She’s checkin’ into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

So how’s she gettin’ through twelve

Sign her up and take her to lessons at night

It will get you nowhere just give up the fight

Got you thinkin’ you know what you’re into

Her left feet are sticking to the floor like glue

You stand there and tell ‘er that taking a stance

It’s changing nothin’ ’cause the girl can’t dance

She starts to drinkin’

And she wants to do more

Courage in a bottle

To get her out on the floor

She’s checkin’ into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

So how’s she gettin’ through twelve

She’s checkin’ into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

How’s she gettin’ through twelve

[Capo fourth fret]

(d) You’re just someone else’s (a) problem now

With your silver spoon and (d) button down

Took a long ride on that (a) #9 cloud

(e) You’re just somebody else’s (a) problem now

(d) Well I’m movin’ away from (a) where you are

Just across this town but (d) not too far

Far enough away so (a) you can’t see

(e) How we’re happy and (a) livin’ free

(e) You’re just somebody (a) else’s problem now

(e) Never knew shit and (a) ya don’t know now

(e) Always comm’n up short (a) left wonder how

(d) You’re just someone else’s (a) problem now

(d) Yeah you’re someone else’s (a) problem now

With your organic homegrown (d) tax free frown

Livin’ it up on your (a) sisters crown

(e) You’re just someone else’s (a) problem now

(d) We all tried to help there (a) ain’t no cure

Haven’t given up but you’re (d) not too sure

If you ever come around (a) we’ll all be gone

(e) But at least I can thank you (a) for this song

(e) You’re just somebody (a) else’s problem now

(e) Never knew shit and (a) ya don’t know now

(e) Always comm’n up short (a) left wonder how

(d) You’re just someone else’s (a) problem now

(e) Yeah you’re somebody else’s (a) problem now

(e) You’re just someone else’s (a) problem now

You’re Right, I’m Wrong, What’s New

Woman if you don’t change your ways

I’mma walk right out that door

I’ve had enough trying to prove myself

I just can’t take no more

I’m fixin’ one more drink to give ya one more chance

To tell me that I’m wrong

When the ice melts and your heart breaks

I’ll leave that bottle to keep you warm

Heaven knows I could use a break from the Hell that you’re puttin’ me through

I’m tired and I need to get some sleep – you’re right, I’m wrong, what’s new

Woman I’ve tried so many times

To remain humble in this home

And I pray so much for your happiness

But I just can’t do it alone

Now I’ve heard you out & I’ve said my peace

There is nothing left to hide

When I call you out then you put me down

I’ll leave those bottles by your side

Heaven knows I could use some peace from the Hell you put me through

I’m tired, I need to get some sleep – you’re right, I’m wrong, what’s new

Heaven knows…

Love Into Hate

August 18, 2013

(July 7, 2013 at 1:26am)

Say I don’t know why you left, and you know that ain’t the truth
And then you blame it all on your age and my overgrown youth
Blame is on me for wanting to be frisky and asking too much of you
But really all I ever wanted to do was to avoid having these blues

Now I realize all your love was in vain, I just realized it all too late
I was nothing more than a hopeless romantic believing in false fate
I don’t have enough love to give the animals you left me with in vain
Finally coming to my senses understanding you never felt the same

Turn love into hate just to help you fight
That helps you sleep through the night
In the morning you still can’t see the light
Having convinced yourself that it’s right

Convincing yourself what you’re doing is what needs to be done
Trying to forget stomping down the hall with the loaded shotgun
This is the best place to get it done the safety’s off to shoot the gun
Or even better yet I should just go and take a handful of Ambien

Yet l’m still not running down the hallway to go and comfort you
Just another day of the same old nothing you ever do is new
Let’s have some mundane play-time and pretend that it’s cool
Then of course if you don’t like that I can just blame it all on you

Turn love into hate just to help you survive
Nothing you could do can make it feel right
Sun comes up you still can’t stand in the light
Just remember I’m here willing to make it right

My New Best Friends

August 18, 2013

(July 21, 2013 at 6:05pm)

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends

My life changed the day she walked out the door

Then they served me with papers for the divorce

So if you’re looking to hurt me or just to rub it in

You’ll find me down where whiskey river ends

With heartache and misery, my new best friends

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends

We had been fighting for the whole month before

She’d been setting this up for years to be be sure

Sixteen years to break me for her love to rescind

All alone in a World where the pain never ends

With heartache and misery, my only true friends

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends
