My New Best Friends

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends

My life changed the day she walked out the door

Then they served me with papers for the divorce

So if you’re looking to hurt me or just to rub it in

You’ll find me down where whiskey river ends

With heartache and misery, my new best friends

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends

We had been fighting for the whole month before

She’d been setting this up for years to be be sure

Sixteen years to break me for her love to rescind

All alone in a World where the pain never ends

With heartache and misery, my only true friends

Yes heartache and misery are my new best friends

Got all that you don’t need we’re friends to the end

I’ll die with this broken heart just not sure as to when

With heartache and misery as my only two friends

Waiting

May 9, 2013

(May 9, 2013 at 6:56pm)

First thing in the morning with bloodshot eyes
The emails not thrown in the trash are few
Checking my phone before pulling out the drive
I’ll be waiting all day for a message from you

Entire day spent watchin’ the sun ‘cross the sky
Between jumping online to make a post or two
This damn virtuous clock’s time won’t fly
I’ve been waiting all day for a message from you

You said we’re playing with fire and I don’t won’t to get burned
But can we push fate aside if this is finally our turn

The sun’s gone down and now the moon’s on the rise
To get through this night I’ll have to have me a few
Reading through old messages hoping they’re not lies
I’ll be dreaming all night of a message from you

You said we’re playing with fire…

Your Smile

October 11, 2009

Woke up with the rain today –¬†Felt my mind slippin’ away

Off to some other place where I could see your smile

I knew it was jut a dream –¬†Dishes in the sink were clean

Birds were singin’ in the trees & I thought I saw you smile

There’s not another soul around, nothin’ out here makes a sound

Just you in my thoughts and all my broken dreams

There’s not another heart to find, no one here to speak their mind

Just you in my thoughts and all my broken dreams

Dragged my ass out of that bed – Made damn sure the dogs were fed

I thought about what you had said the last time I saw you smile

There’s not another soul around, nothin’ out here makes a sound

Just you in my thoughts and all my broken dreams

There’s not another heart to find, no one here to speak their mind

Just you in my thoughts and all my broken dreams

Two-Step Rehab

October 11, 2009

She’s got five different pairs of Cowgirl boots

A dozen sets of jeans that she squeezes into

Got a body that’ll always leave you beggin’ for more

You’d really love to get her out on the floor

You think you’re going to ask her ’cause you caught a glance

But ever since I met her that girl can’t dance

She’s got her favorite table at the Broken Spoke

Everybody loves her and that ain’t no joke

Sometimes she wears a dress ’cause she likes to twirl

Deep down in her heart she’s still a five year old girl

Her smile will lead you thinkin’ that you stand a chance

But ever since I met her the girl can’t dance

She starts to drinkin’

And she wants to do more

Courage in a bottle

To get her out on the floor

She’s going into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

So how’s she gettin’ though twelve

Sign her up and take her to lessons at night

Yet it will get you nowhere just give up the fight

She’s got you thinkin’ you know what you’re into

And her left feet are sticking to the floor like glue

You can stand there and tell her that you’re taking a stance

But you’re changing nothin’ ’cause the girl can’t dance

She starts to drinkin’

And she wants to do more

Courage in a bottle

To get her out on the floor

She’s going into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

So how’s she gettin’ though twelve

She’s going into rehab

She can’t help herself

But baby can’t two-step

How’s she gettin’ though twelve
